If you've received a digital badge from Milestone, you may be wondering what you can do with it. If you're not familiar with digital badges, you may want to read our badges overview first.
As the earner of a badge, you have demonstrated the skills or competency set as requirements on that particular badge, and now the badge itself (which contains data inside it tied to the e-mail address you received the badge at) is your proof to the world that you completed this achievement.
There are several things you can now do with your badge should you choose:
- Download the badge for posting in compatible platforms
- Display the badge in your Achievement Studio account
- Share the badge on social media or professional networks
Downloading Badges from E-mail
Though the specific actions or clicks may vary from one email program (e.g., Google Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, etc.) may vary, generally speaking you should be able to right-click on the image of the badge inside the email you received and select "Save as...", "Save as Picture...", or some similarly-phased option. You will then be prompted to select the location on your computer you wish to store a copy of your badge.
Uploading Badges to other Open Badges-compatible Platforms
After you have downloaded your badge from the e-mail you received, one thing you can do is upload this badge to any platform that supports storing digital badges that conform to the Open Badges 2.0 standard. These type of systems are sometimes referred to as "badge backpacks" and are designed to, potentially among other things, allow users to show off Open Badges they have received. The specific steps you must take to upload a badge will vary from platform to platform, so please consult the support or help documentation of your desired platform.
Achievement Studio is one such badge backpack system, and the good news is that if you earned your badge from Milestone, it will automatically be available to you in Achievement Studio when you sign in for the first time.
To sign in to Achievement Studio, you must first register your account. Please note that in order to automatically gain access to the online copy of the badge you received from Milestone via e-mail, you must use that same e-mail address when prompted during the registration process.
Displaying Badges on Achievement Studio
Badges in Achievement Studio are displayed through Collections. Please see our support page on Collections for more information on how they work and how to set yours up.
Sharing Badges on Social Media or Professional Networks
If you have registered for an account on Achievement Studio you can log in, click on the Badges menu, click on the specific badge you want to share, and then from that badge click on the buttons for Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn.
LinkedIn provides several ways that may be appropriate to display or indicate the achievement of your badge, so you may wish to view our instructions for sharing on LinkedIn.
